Barra Energia just announced new discovery of light oil in the pre-salt of Santos Basin-Brazil

The oil company Barra Energia just announced the occurrence of a new accumulation of good quality oil in Block BM-S-8 in the pre-salt reservoirs in ultra deep Santos Basin-Brazil.

The discovery occurred during the drilling of the 4-SPS-86B (4-BRSA-971-SPS), informally known Carcara, located 232 km from the coast of São Paulo. The result was confirmed by sampling of 31 º API oil, one of the lightest found in the pre-salt Santos Basin so far, in reservoirs situated at 5750 meters deep.

The well drilling continues searching to determine the lower limit of the reservoirs as well as identify other possible areas of interest. Carcara is the third well drilled in the area of the Evaluation Plan of the discovery of 1-BRSA-532A-SPS (Bem-te-vi), situated in a water depth of 2.027m.

"This result confirms the presence of an effective petroleum system in this part of the block and our strategy to build a portfolio of exploration and production assets in Brazil," said Renato Bertani, CEO. "We are very pleased with the exploration potential of the block and the encouraging preliminary results of Caracara," said João Carlos de Luca, CEO of the company.

The Consortium will give continuity to its activities and investments needed for the evaluation of the area, according to the Evaluation Plan approved by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Fuel (ANP).
